WHY IT MATTERS
Rural communities are often under-resourced and geographically spread out, which can make emergencies more dangerous and recovery more difficult. Our approach is place-based and relationship-driven, strengthening community networks and practical readiness so residents are not left isolated when systems fail. OUR EXPERIENCE Led by David and Maria A. Muhammad, CEO and COO, I AM Green brings decades of experience in food security, community organizing, environmental education, and crisis response. As founders of The Grove in Freedom Village, GA, a Black-owned eco-village and town concept, they model the kind of regenerative, cooperative future their work helps communities build. PARTNER WITH US We welcome opportunities to support funded projects, provide training and facilitation, and collaborate on resilience and workforce initiatives. Our Story
Brother Dave & Sister Maria
|
David and Maria A. Muhammad are the co-founders of I AM Green, Inc. and the visionary founders of The Grove in Freedom Village, GA, a Black-owned eco-village and town concept centered on sustainable living and community resilience. Married for over three decades, they have raised three children and are proud grandparents of three. Known throughout their community as Auntie and Uncle, they are trusted mentors and godparents to many, with a lifelong commitment to service that extends far beyond titles. As CEO and COO of I AM Green, David and Maria bring decades of experience in community organizing, food security, environmental literacy, and resilience-building. Their work spans more than 30 years across Los Angeles, Baltimore, San Diego, and Georgia, where they helped expand access to nutritious food and strengthen community-based solutions. Today, they lead initiatives that help communities build practical preparedness systems, strengthen local networks of care, and grow pathways toward environmental workforce opportunity. David and Maria’s leadership is grounded in practical skill and deep care. Their experience includes disaster preparedness, community emergency response, conflict resolution, and non-violent crisis intervention, all in service of creating safer, more connected communities. They are also farmers and land stewards, committed to regenerative practices that nurture both people and place. As poets, writers, and authors, they use storytelling to inspire others to embrace a #DopeAzzGreenLife, rooted in faith, purpose, and responsibility to one another. |
